Beginning Piano Lessons For Starters
Beginning piano lessons will walk you through the basics of playing the piano. Despite being a relatively complex music instrument, piano can actually be mastered. We have prepared the basics of beginning piano lessons for you here.
{Understanding The Piano}
You need a degree of familiarity with the piano keyboard before you understand enough not to be confused by it. For starters, all keyboards contain only 12 keys which is arranged in the keyboard with a pattern. This pattern can be seen repeated the entire layout of the piano.
The piano’s layout comprises of individual sets of black and white keys. Each of these keys stand for a specific note, which by the way counts to only 12 notes no matter how many keys there are in your piano. This pattern is apparent in the arrangement of the black and white keys. The black keys are grouped in sets of 2s and 3s and white keys form the remainder of the pattern.
You would also notice that to the left of any pair of 2 black keys is a white key. This is what is called the key of C, the key where not only all octaves begin but also where most beginning piano lessons start from.
{The Middle C and The Finger Positioning}
The Middle C is the note that sits squarely in the middle of the keyboard. If you are using an 88-key piano, this is the key that is located parallel to the manufacturer’s logo. The importance of the Middle C – this is the key that just happens to be the focal point for the basic positioning of fingers for piano lessons.
The Middle C is often called as the Number 1 position. To properly position your hands for the Number 1 position, your thumb, which is the number 1 finger for either hands, should rest on the middle C. The rest of your fingers should rest on all white keys adjacent to the left or the right of the Middle C.
It is good to remember that each finger has a designated number. Thus, the thumb is number 1, the index finger is number 2, the middle finger is number 3, the ring finger is number 4 and the little finger is the number 5 finger.
{Now let’s begin with your first lesson…}
For your starter’s lesson, take the number 1 position. Now press your thumb, followed by your index fingers and the rest of your fingers – one key at a time. Press each key slowly while evenly, ensuring that you do not take long pauses between keys. After pressing the 5th key, reverse the exercise and press keys 4 down to Middle C. This exercise is what pianist call a basic arpeggio, repeat this for at least thirty.
For your first exercise, most of your fingers should have no problem maintaining a smooth and even transition between keys, although your 3rd and 4th fingers are expected to cause you some problems. This is natural since both fingers are not used to working independently. With exercise, the muscles of these fingers will become accustomed to independent work. For the time being, concentrate as much as you can in developing the individual movements of these fingers.
Any beginning piano lessons kick off with these elements – learning the structure of the keyboard, getting acquainted with the pattern of the keys, knowing the Middle C and practicing your first finger exercise.
